Creating QR Codes

              

Once you have finished your Digital Book Talk, you are going to create a QR code for your Book Talk.  Click here to view a tutorial on how to make QR codes.  Then go to Kaywa and create your own.  For your final product, create a page with a picture of your Book Cover and the QR code that, when scanned, will take viewers to your book talk.  How cool is that?

Harriet Tubman: Guide to Freedom

We are going to read Harriet Tubman: Guide to Freedom a story that describes the Underground Railroad and Harriet Tubman's role in helping free the slaves in the south in the 1800s.  Before we read the story in our textbook, you are going to learn a little about The Underground Railroad and Harriet Tubman by watching a video, completing a web quest and completing an interactive journey on The Underground Railroad yourself.

Your assignment is to complete the web quest on Harriet Tubman. Follow the directions on the sheet and learn more about Harriet Tubman. You may write your answers on the back of the paper.

Ray Bradbury Biographical Sketch

Today you are going to write one paragraph of our Ray Bradbury essay in your groups. Think about the Mosquitoes and Abe Lincoln essay examples and write an interesting and well organized paragraph. Use this Google Doc link (you will need to sign into your Barnard School Google docs account to access it!) to write your paragraph on Ray Bradbury. When each group is done we should have a first draft of the body of our biographical sketch. Then we'll have to figure out how to make them all fit together. Think about ways to connect these three topics and transition words or sentences that we could use. Let's see which groups' paragraph is the best! Good luck and happy writing!

Learning about Types of Nonfiction

8th graders--You started researching an author and thinking about writing a biographical sketch last week. This week we are going to look at the different elements of nonfiction and how nonfiction writing can be organized.
